About Derrick M. Gordon, PhD

Derrick is a Senior Evaluation Consultant with YaleEVAL and the Director of Research, Policy, and Program on Male Development at The Consultation Center. Derrick is known for his expertise in collaborating with community-based programs to evaluate the services they provide, broaden the mental health supports in community contexts, and for his work focused on men on color socially on the fringes (e.g., low-income fathers, men transitioning from incarceration, young fathers). In his work with these men, he focuses on documenting the services they receive, how data can provide rigorous and systematic feedback to improve services, and increasing their participation across a number of spheres (e.g., family, community life). Trained as a clinical and community psychologist, Derrick is experienced in conducting program evaluations, needs assessments, and evaluations of service delivery systems. Derrick is an Associate Professor whose scholarly work attempts to bring his evaluation and program consultation tools into the academic sphere though the exploration of questions relevant in community context and most applicable to the growth and the development of men and men of color.
