The Sisters of Saint Joseph Welcome Center will expand their series of wellness classes for students and community members.
The Sisters of Saint Joseph Welcome Center has been serving the immigrant and Kensington community since 2003. They serve around 200 immigrants on a yearly basis through English and Citizenship classes, which are offered online and in person. In addition, immigrant friends and their families can also find help through our Outreach and Legal Services. Through their English classes, many of their students are able to find employment thanks to their growing English skills, and they can better understand the world around them. To date, 354 students have become naturalized citizens.
During the summer months, the Welcome Center hosts a series of wellness classes for students and community members. Friends are invited to attend yoga, art, and cooking classes taught by volunteers and students. With this grant from the Community Fund for Immigrant Wellness, they will increase the frequency of these wellness classes. They will strengthen relationships and create a space that feels secure for them. The relationships and trust their students have with their team means are critically important to improving mental and physical wellness. This funding will allow Sisters of Saint Joseph Welcome Center will allow them to better understand one another, and help students better understand themselves and the relationships they have with family and the world around them!
