Jaisohn Wellness Center, Senior Community Center keeps vulnerable immigrant Asian American senior citizens healthy through various activity driven programs and preventive health classes.
Jaisohn Wellness Center, Senior Community Center keeps vulnerable immigrant Asian American senior citizens healthy through various activity driven programs and preventive health classes. Language and cultural differences and need for culturally sensitive ethnic foods have kept the Asian American seniors from participating in the mainstream senior centers and the stigma around mental health in the Asian community has kept these seniors from getting mental health support when needed. Thus, Jaisohn Wellness Center, Senior Community Center is providing culturally sensitive space for the participants to cultivate meaningful connections with their community that promotes healing, encouraging care and coping skills and fosters a sense of dignity and self-agency. Their activity driven courses like line dance, singing, mindfulness, knitting, watercolor painting, senior math, Taichi, ESL, preventive healthcare education and Wellness Walk programs keep the seniors healthy and active physically and mentally for overall behavioral well-being and improved brain health. In addition, their bilingual outreach and navigation programs help these seniors overcome barriers created by their limited English proficiency so they can better manage their daily lives.
