A Path to Prosperity

Overdose Prevention and Community Healing Fund

Established in 2022, “A Path to Prosperity” is a paid job readiness program designed to provide employment to individuals in an attempt to combat the gun violence and opioid epidemics in Philadelphia with economic opportunity.

About

Established in 2022, “A Path to Prosperity” is a paid job readiness program designed to provide employment to individuals in an attempt to combat the gun violence and opioid epidemics in Philadelphia with economic opportunity.

Based on the READI Chicago model, we know that a career pathway leads to a 32% reduction in gun violence and reduce recidivism. Between May, 2022 and March, 2023, 74 participants graduated from the program. 50% of those participants received gainful employment. Also, 10 additional people received forklift certifications and 7 were hired on the spot for positions at Stroehman and Coca-Cola. One graduate completed their phlebotomy certification in partnership with Magnificent Touch phlebotomy. Over 50 individuals received their driver’s licenses as a part of the program as well.

Our overall goal is to create a comprehensive program to provide educational and employment opportunities in order to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and mitigate the gun violence epidemic in North Philadelphia. We have a goal to graduate 60 students from A Path to Prosperity, and ideally, guide those students to gainful employment.
“A Path to Prosperity” will engage individuals in soft-skills training including resume building, interpersonal communication, and behavioral interviewing. Over the course of four weeks, students learn through the STAR method to understand their strengths and develop the confidence to obtain employment.
