Overdose Prevention and Community Healing Fund
Broad Street Ministry's (BSM) Behavioral Health Initiative expands opioid-focused programming for individuals using services at BSM who may be unhoused or experiencing housing insecurity, especially towards unhoused individuals in the immediate "Avenue of the Arts" corridor, and the immediate area of South Broad Street.
About
Broad Street Ministry’s (BSM) Behavioral Health Initiative expands opioid-focused programming for individuals using services at BSM who may be unhoused or experiencing housing insecurity, especially towards unhoused individuals residing in the immediate “Avenue of the Arts” corridor, but residing in the immediate area of South Broad Street. As a low-threshold daytime engagement center with a comprehensive array of services in-house, our “neutral” center city location is a critical piece of Philadelphia’s response to the sustained opioid crisis.
Programming includes:
- A dedicated Housing & Behavioral Health case manager to focus their efforts on unhoused and housing-insecure individuals
- Trainings for staff, volunteers and the public on opioid addiction identification, intervening safely in an opioid overdose, administering opioid reversal medications (i.e. Narcan), as well as obtaining and housing overdose reversal medications.
- Streamlined assessments on-site for housing and addiction-related services.
- Reducing common barriers to behavioral health treatment while ensuring baseline stability for each guest through access to meals, clothing, benefits (SNAP, Medicaid/Medicare), and key identity documents.
